“Your performance was full of fun and energy!”
“Thank you so much for your absolutely wonderful performance on Thursday night. The combination of the didj along with violin, guitar, and vocals was a beautiful way to start our evening, and your performance was full of fun and energy, we have had raving reviews from our guests! A personal highlight for me was your joke about starting a bush dance – I think half of the crowd were ready to get up and join you! We really appreciate each of your commitment to education for Indigenous children all around Australia, and your huge contribution to our Melbourne Dinner – thank you.”
Ruby Chester, Event and Sponsorship Coordinator, Yalari Foundation

                                          “Increased family attendance.”
“Our Lady Help of Christians has a focus on community engagement. When we asked The Billy Tea Bush Band to visit our school twice in 2018 it was with this firmly in mind. We held a Welcome Day in February, and and End of Year Celebration in late November. The focus for the first visit was to invite the families to a Welcome Picnic and Bush Dance, following the workshops with the bush band during the day. The focus of the second visit was to engage the senior students with their school community. The children chose a song they loved – “Shotgun” by George Ezra, and Mick prepared some dance moves for the kids to practise, further choreographing the moves on the day. The children had been practising enthusiastically and were so proud to perform in front of their school mates and families. This model increased family attendance and pairing it with  a picnic tea tea made it a social time for all of our school community. Thank you to the Billy Tea Bush Band  for a successful way to bookend our year!”

“Thank you so much for playing at the Albert Sailing Club’s 70th birthday celebrations. The music was fantastic! All who ventured onto the dance floor had a great time and those who weren’t so brave thoroughly enjoyed the music throughout the evening. The variety of songs, the standard of playing and the music over dinner all contributed to what was a most successful evening. We appreciated your contribution enormously, so a BIG thank you from all of us!

“Every child and adult was having fun, laughing and smiling – which is a truly great gift.”
“Just wanted to say thank you for tonight – the kids loved it and it was great fun away from the ipad and the usual hustle and bustle of life. It’s so great to see that something we grew up with as kids is still being enjoyed today as much as it was back in the “olden days” as my kids call it – even though I’m only 35! Every child and adult was having fun, laughing and smiling which is a truly great gift that you gave to everyone that was there. Keep up the good work and I truly hope you come back next year. Cheers!

“Watching the students dance with their mother or father was a delight.”
“On behalf of Newton Primary School I would like to thank the Billy Tea Bush Band for a wonderful, musical day of dancing, fun and laughter.
The whole school concert was a great introduction to the day. The groups of mixed ages worked out very well, as the older students helped the younger ones. The dances were easy to learn and had everyone bouncing around. The evening concert and dancing was excellent. The family atmosphere was great and watching the students dance with their mother or father was a delight. A very long day for the Billy Tea Bush Band but a wonderful and unique experience for Newton PS. Thank you for flying all the way over to WA.”

“You really gave us a day to remember – children and teachers are still talking about it and want you to come back again! I had forgotten how much fun it is to join in a bush dance, and thanks to your excellent leading, the parents all loved it too. By the look of all the smiles on their faces, the word will be getting around to those that missed out. After the workshops, the resounding feedback was “Fun!””

“The biggest community turn out for a school event in many years!”
“I can’t believe it’s been 8 weeks since your visit – it was such a wonderful day and we were all thrilled with the community turn out for the evening family dance. Seeing our kids dancing with each other, their parents and grandparents was heart warming. Our principal commented at a post-event assembly that it was the biggest community turn out for a school event he’d seen at Falcon PS for many years.
Staff commented on the friendly and supportive way the older students interacted with the younger ones during the classes. You made it very welcoming and non-threatening for everyone to join in and follow the steps. It was a fabulous way to celebrate the community in which we live and bring everyone together. Thank you for your experience, time and energy. We wish you all the best and hope you get to return to our beautiful part of Australia one day.

“A low cost, high impact incursion.”
“Thank you Michael and Phil for yet another fantastic twilight bush dance, which brought our Highton Primary community together in such a fun and entertaining way. It made such a relaxed and informal opportunity for teachers to mingle with parents, and for students to share their love of music and dance with their friends and family. It is one of the highlights of our year! The student workshops during the day were also well run and well priced. It is a low cost, high impact incursion, from foundation to grade 6, in the art of social bush dancing and music appreciation. Highly recommended!”

“The theme of acceptance and understanding was invaluable.”
“The Billy Tea Bush Band performed for our vibrant group of 75 international students at Melbourne University. Although some of the students were a little shy, the band quickly made our students comfortable, had us on our feet performing some classic bush dances and had them enjoying their surprise Australian cultural experience. Staff all agreed it was one of the highlights of our program, and particularly created a sense of community and camaraderie between the students, some of which had been in Australia for less than a month. This snapshot into Australian bush folklore, and the theme of acceptance and understanding was invaluable to them. Thank you for the terrific afternoon I had the pleasure of being involved in, and I highly recommend them to anyone, for the young or young at heart – we will certainly be using them again!”

                                                       “Ticked all the boxes.”
“After 30 years of teaching and attending 20 bush dances with taped and live music, Mick and Phil from the Billy Tea Bush Band did it better than I ever could have imagined! Watching over 350 children singing and dancing was just amazing, with all age groups catered for. There was no preparation required by the staff, the kids loved it and to see all the families being involved at the evening bush dance was amazing. The program covered the dance components from both the Creative Arts and the PDHPE curriculum and ticked all the boxes in regards to partner and group dancing and performance. There was even a free expression dance component in the combined concert session. The children were in mixed grade workshops, which was a triumph. The year five and six students dance with their buddies from kinder and year one, which kept them focussed. We will definitely book them again. Thank you for a wonderful day of fun and entertainment!”

What an awesome way to end the day, and a social night not just for the children but parents too! “I thought the incursion was fabulous – it was energetic, engaging and lots of fun.  I loved the way it connected us with the community, and I was amazed at how many people rolled up in such miserable weather. The fellas were easy to work with, and I loved the way they remained calm and positive throughout the day.  It was also great to see the cultural diversity of the participants and how they interacted confidently. “Our school has had the Billy Tea Bush Dance program for the last five years, as it is a great excuse for our school community to come together and have a great time. I teach dancing to the whole school as it supports the numeracy and literacy teaching at school, as dancing is all about pattern and the learning of patterns. The Billy Teas finish off a great term of dance with our students learning simple social skills that enhance their social development.”

“This was one of those events that will be a cherished memory of attending Yarrunga PS, providing an opportunity to develop the strong links between school and home that we all know are so important to a child’s learning and development. The students showed the dance skills they learnt during the day, and with the preps ably supported by their buddies ‘danced the night away!’ It was also great to see the parents, grandparents and friends join in.”

Later at night we performed the bush dances for the parents, then everyone joined in. It turned out to be a huge success, and in the future it would be amazing to do it all again. “I had The Billy Tea Band this year and they did a fantastic job. They spend the day in your school teaching different bush dances, and then stay on for the evening to run a school community bush dance.  They run the whole show and get the kids to teach the dances to the parents.  It is a great community evening.  My P&C and school community absolutely loved it… hence we’re getting them back next year!  If you’re considering a bush dance you wont regret it – the staff can tick off dancing in their program, the kids have a great social time and learn some new skills and dances and the community comes together for a special event and also have fun!

“The Bush Dance was fantastic, and was a great way to bring the whole school and the wider school community together. Everyone had fun and it was lovely to see the older students guiding the younger students, and to see mums, dads, grandparents, children and teachers dancing together. In my Pre-Primary/Kindy class the children had such a great time at the workshops that they convinced their parents to come to the evening dance- (I don’t think many of them were intending on coming.) We have been doing the “Horses in the Forest Dance” and the “Slow-mo Dance” in our classroom – and the children still love them!”

“A hassle free night with maximum enjoyment for children, staff and parents.”
“The bush dance made our annual picnic the success it was and there was certainly a great deal of feedback from the parents expressing how much they enjoyed the dance. Your workshops with the children before hand were professionally run, while staff were extremely impressed with the organization of the workshops and the great manner you both had with the children at Leopold from all grade levels. From a coordination point of view, I appreciated your ideas and your availability to organize the bush dance, which resulted in a hassle free night with maximum enjoyment for children, staff and parents. Leopold Primary School would be pleased to recommend The Billy Tea Bush Band to any prospective school or event organizer.”
